We are presenting the programme “Educational Garden in a Residential Suburb” to be implemented in the South West district B1 Yerevan with its scheme, substantiation, financial economical evaluation to be included in the 2016 plan of Yerevan.

The situation:

Block B1 in the Malatia Sebastia district of Yerevan framed by Streets Raffi, Zoravar Andranik, Arno Babajanyan, has been constructed with 9-14-storeyed buildings. The following educational institutions subjected to the city council operate in the district: Basic School 181(Str Babajanyan 4), School 95 (Str. Andranik 124), School 93 (Raffi 69), School 98 (Raffi/5); Pre-school institutions: Taron Art Home (Andranik 54), New-School Garden (Andranik 47/1) of “Mkhitar Sebastatsi” Educomplex of the Ministry of ES of RA, College (Andranik 92/1), Art School (Raffi 69/1), Media Center (Raffi 57), Mother School (Babajanyan 25). More than a dozen children’s playgrounds operate in the block.

The residents in this dwelling block, the learners of the educational institutions have difficulties in crossing the block from South to North, from West to East going on foot, with baby prams, riding a bike or in making any inter-block communications. This problem was absolved while constructing the residential block, and the chaotic construction works in the 1990s made the situation worse. A residential block having about 40000 inhabitants, 1000 pre-school children and about 4000 school-children of different age groups can’t be inconvenient. It should provide   everybody with equal possibilities for free movement.

As a Result of the Implementation of the Programme We’re Going to Have

• A cascade branch-lane along the North-South of the ”Educational Garden” leading to the Media Center and Artschool of the Educomplex, pre-school institutions N 93 and N 98 of Malatia-Sebastia Administrative District, from the hillside which is being constructed now (from between the staircase) up to the operating garden-squares and children’s playground of the school N 181 and the Mother School of the Educomplex (former school N 183).
• Along the East-West of the Educational Garden a branch-lane in two directions, one leading to the orchard called ”Sebastia” of the College of the Educomplex, to the pre-school institution N 95 of Malatia-Sebastia Administrative District, to ”Vahan Asatryan” park, to the school N 181 of the Yerevan Municipality and its playground, which is being reconstructed now, to the operating square or park of the Mother School of the Educomplex ”Mkhitar Sebastatsi”, through the Educomplex practice ground ”Sebastia”, Babajanyan street to the secondary street and the street entering the block. One of the entrances of the Educational Garden is planned to be constructed from this street, the other from Raffi Street, the third one from Zoravar Andranik Street.
• Emphasizing and improving the North, West, East entrances of the Educational Garden, superimposing of the entrances and marking of the circular bicycle lane, determination of parking and bicycle parking places.
• At the entrances of the Educational Garden, where there are bicycle parkings are going to operate bicycle services.

The Educational Garden which is created to meet the resident’s needs, to create for them an open educational environment with safe and comfortable bicycle lanes, pedestrian crossings, well-groomed foliage, is going to influence greatly the development of the block.
